Prep. Time: 15 min. work, several hours rise time

Cook Time: 45 min.

Preheat oven: 375 degrees


Makes 6 to 8 servings.

2 cups oatmeal, uncooked
1/2 cup Plantation Blackstrap Molasses
1 t salt
1 lbs. shortening
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 cake yeast
1 cup evaporated milk
5 cups sifted flour

1. Mix oatmeal, molasses, salt, shortening and one cup of the water. Let stand one hour. Soften Yeast in remaining one-half cup of water - be sure it has cooled to lukewarm.

2. Add yeast, milk and enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead well and let stand in a warm place until double in bulk. Knead again and shape into loaves.

3. Place in greased loaf pans and let rise again until double in bulk.

4. Bake for approximately 45 min. at 375 deg.
